The UC Student Council
The main role of the UC Student Council is to represent you in College Hall, the most eye-catching building on campus where all big decisions are made. Put simply: the UCSC takes part in making and checking the (educational) policies at UCU, ranging from course quality to student wellbeing, to ensure that your voice is heard.

Anish Arun (he/him)My position: Chair
E-mail: [email protected] Nationality: Indian Graduating year: 2025 Major: Molecular Biology and Medicine What do I do? As the UC Student Council Chair, I wear many different hats. My most apparent task is setting the agenda for, and chairing the Student Council meetings. However, I dedicate most of my time monitoring our long-term aims and projects. In practice, this means that I make sure that our daily activities are in line with our goals and values. Additionally, I am the vice-chair of the University College Utrecht Council (UCUC), the body in College Hall that checks the policy decisions made by the Management Team (MT). In this capacity, I am also tasked with maintaining communication with members of the UU Council as well as the Faculty Councils in order to keep each other up to date and exchange advice. Lastly, an often overlooked yet vital part of being chair, I make sure every board member feels heard, seen, and fulfilled about their work. This year, I am working on several projects within the Inclusivity and Clarity portfolios, So please feel free to reach out to me about any of these topics! What do I like? I love a good conversation! To me, there really are a really few things more refreshing than a great chat, which is something I am always super happy to have!! Outside of that, I love listening to music whenever possible (as can be evidenced by my trusty pair of headphones always around my neck), and am super excited about exploring new genres and artists. I also love being active whenever possible, whether that be via a quick lift at our humble gym, or through a peaceful walk. |
Georgie Hekkelman (she/her)My position: Student Assessor
E-mail: [email protected] Nationality: Dutch and English Graduating year: 2025 Major: Law, Politics, and Geography What do I do? As Student Assessor I am part of UCU’s Management Team together with the Dean, Managing Director, and Director of Education. In Management Team meetings, I bring a student perspective to all managerial decisions ranging from the college budget to discussion about diversity to UCU’s long term strategy. You can therefore come to me if you have any suggestions for improving the way UCU is run. As a member of the Management Team, I am also invited to Coordination Team meetings in which we discuss everything related to the day to day events at UCU. Additionally, as assessor, I am part of the Board of Studies (BoS) together with our BoS AAO Kate, the Director of Education, and the Cluster Chairs. Here we approve new courses and shape UCU’s curriculum on a large scale. Furthermore, since every faculty of Utrecht University has a Student Assessor, we all come together in the College van Utrechtse Assessoren, here we keep each other up to date and exchange advice. The Assessor is thus part of a lot of different groups, which allows me to give the Student Council insight into the inner workings of UCU and the university. Lastly, as the assessor I am also vice-chair of the UC Student Council, and work together with my board on a wide range of projects and initiatives. What do I like? Although I have a fairly busy schedule whenever I have a free moment you can usually find me watching a movie or binging a new show or hanging out with friends! I also love baking but have not been the most successful with the UCU ‘oven’ :) I love exploring new cafes in Utrecht and have a list of recommendations for study spaces if you ever need some advice! At UCU I’m currently part of LawCo (come to our events!) and have been a student ambassador for the last year. Feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions! |
Lotte Fokke (she/her)Position: Secretary
Email: [email protected] Nationality: Dutch Graduating year: 2025 Major: Biology and Medical Science, Minor: Linguistics What do I do? As Secretary of the University College Student Council, I have many roles – both internal and external. My position combines the roles of a Treasurer, Secretary, and PR Manager into one. My tasks include but are not limited to: taking minutes, managing the board's finances, monitoring and working on our public relations, scheduling meetings, and keeping track of our board's progress on our various projects, with our lovely Chair Anish. Externally, I am also a representative on the UCU Council – the body in our College Hall that is responsible for checking the decisions made by the Management Team. Lastly, throughout the year I work with my board on several projects on wellbeing and communication, which are subjects I am particularly passionate about. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, then please feel free to reach out to me! What do I like? In my free time, I enjoy doing a variety of things! I love baking and cooking, although the UCU kitchens can make that a bit challenging at times. I also love spending time with friends—whether it's having dinner together, grabbing coffee or drinks in the city, or watching a movie. During Covid, I picked up embroidery and sewing, hobbies I still indulge in occasionally. At UCU, I’ve been actively involved in different activities. I was part of the Prom team, designed for the Fashion Show, and for the past two years, I've been part of the Wellbeing Team. I’m currently serving as the chair of the Wellbeing Team, a role I really enjoy. Feel free to come up for a chat anytime—I’m always happy to help out! |
Kate Lee (she/her)Position: Academic Affairs Officer
Email: [email protected] Nationality: British Graduating year: 2025 Major: Law and Economics, Minor: Mathematics What do I do? The Academic Affairs Officers (AAOs) are a team of three Student Council members that are in close contact with students, track representatives, teachers, fellows and cluster chairs in order to improve the Liberal Arts and Sciences education at UCU. As an AAO, my tasks include organizing focus groups, conducting midterm evaluations, and much more. I will be the Academic Affairs Officer for Clusters 3 – Political Science, Human Geography, China Studies, Language & Culture, and Earth & Environment – and 5 – Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Biology, and Medical Sciences -, which means I am specifically invested in working on improving the tracks in these clusters. Therefore, I am the person of contact for any concerns and/or ideas related to the aforementioned subjects. Additionally, I am a part of the Board of Studies (BoS), a governing body that discusses a variety of curriculum matters. In order to become part of UCU’s curriculum, teachers have to seek approval from the BoS for new courses and changes in the course curricula. Student input is truly valued, so really do not hesitate to reach out to me for any questions! What do I like? Outside of academics and student council, I spend most of my time cooking with friends, going on walks for a sweet treat or just relaxing in my unit. I am also in the Acquisition Committee on campus, and I love being a part of the Chief group at the UCSA Bar. |

If you have any concerns about what I do or about UCU in general do not hesitate to reach out!! What do I like? Outside of UCSC and academics I spend most of my time with friends! I love music and I spend a lot of time either listening to it or making it. I also enjoy dancing and going to the gym, as well as watching movies and shows. You can probably find me at District at any moment for a needed chocomel run and chocolate croissant run since I don't know how to cook. I am, however, trying to regain my baking abilities this year, so here’s to hoping I learn how to use the microwave to make cakes |
